ENFIELD DISTRICT SCOUT FISHING COMPETITION
SEPTEMBER 25th' 2004

It was a cold morning that greeted the Scouts who turned up for this years District Fishing Competition on the River Lea by the Greyhound Pub in Ordnance Road. The enthusiasm of the waiting Scouts, however, warmed us all up with the promise of a good mornings fishing.

Very soon the bank was alive with the sounds of fish being caught, always a happy sound for Scouts, parents and leaders alike.

The pole seemed to be the favourite rod this year and it certainly proved to be a winner with the fish as well as forty of them gave up the fight and found their way into the Scout's keep nets.

Ian Thompson of the 27th caught eighteen fish weighing a magnificent one pound four ounces (I am still in the dark ages where weights and measures are concerned) and took the `Best Catch' trophy.
Alec Thom of the 14th took the `Runner Up' trophy with a total of four fish weighing fourteen ounces and Sam Barnes also of the 14th caught the biggest fish weighing six ounces and won the `Best Fish' trophy.

I must thank Corrine Dowsett for turning up with her table, camping gas, kettle and cups and providing a most welcome warming cup of tea or coffee for everyone. Another person who always helps on this occasion is Dave Wilkins. Thank you Dave your calm influence has helped many a Scout to achieve his dream. A FISH IN HIS KEEP NET. Maybe the D.C. who came along will bring his rod one year and join in the chase for the best fish.

Well done to the winners and indeed to all twelve Scouts fishing that day, without whom this competition could not take place.
