Cheshunt Area
Location
Cheshunt is to the east of the A10 about 2 miles north of the M25 and Waltham Cross. Access is off the old Hertford Road (A1170) down Windmill Lane to LVRPA car park. Also access can be gained via Cadmore Lane. Be careful when visiting this stretch as there are railway level crossings at each lane.
Description
The LAC boundary is south of Aqueduct Lock and is clearly marked by the LAA sign. Fishing from the tow-path at the top end of this section is not permitted as it is extremely dangerous due to the presence of low overhead electricity cables.
Cheshunt
Lock from Cadmore Lane
There is a footpath from Cadmore Lane leading to the river but access is much easier from Windmill Lane where there is a large car-park and toilets. There are long spaces between the overhead cables but be careful - LOOK UP FIRST!
The tow path Cadmore Lane downstream.
Below Cadmore Lane there is 23 pegs. This offers good roach, bream and tench fishing, especially in the summer. In winter this is very popular with pike anglers. The next ‘safe’ section is downstream of the car-park which has 24 pegs. This is a good area for roach to seed baits in summer and punch in winter. There are also some really good tench that live in the marginal weed on the far bank. However in the late summer some nice perch can be found. They are quite often seen to attack roach that are being landed by anglers.
Further downstream there are a number of large bushes on the far bank and these often hold good chub. There are also some good pike in this area and it worth working your way along the section with a plug or spinner.
There is a car park near to Waltham Common Lock but this is private and should not be used .
Section Tips
Take extra care on this section with the overhead cables. They can kill so LOOK UP FIRST.
