This section is either side of the North Circular Road between Walthamstow and Edmonton.

 

The Stonehill Business Park section (formerly known as Cooks) is reached by car via a roundabout off the North Circular Road just off the map towards Walthamstow. However, current bankside road works may eventually rule out any fishing along the road.

 

 

Above is just below Picketts Lock there is moving water from the overspill system.

 

 

 

Description

 

This is a very slow moving canal-like section of river that contains most species. Bottom and surface drifting weed can be a problem in the summer.

The area just down from the Picketts lock is noted for large bream, skimmers and carp in the summer although in winter they tend to migrate down to the wides on the industrial estate. Further downstream towards the North Circular Road (A406) the stretch is best for skimmers and roach. This area can be fished from either the tow-path or from the Lee Park Way bank. Season ticket holders can gain access to the Park road by talking to Tom, the bailiff. There are some platforms along the roadside and the area fishes reasonable in the Spring and early summer for roach, bream and the odd tench.

 

As a result of cormorant predation the roach and skimmers spend most of the winter right under the A406 and up to opposite the willow tree. Access is available under the road and with careful fishing good bags can be had throughout the winter. As normal where the are roach and skimmers you will find pike especially in the winter. Carp in excess of 20 lbs can also be caught under the bridge.

 

The section through the Stonehill Industrial Estate was a very popular match length that held very good stocks of roach, perch, bream and chub. But heavy industrial traffic makes it extremely difficult to fish comfortably from the road.

 

From the footbridge at the end of this section you can fish from both banks but please do not fish opposite other anglers.

 

The area by Tottenham Marshes is known as ‘the shallows’ and amongst the weeds you will find the remains of our platforms. Some are still fishable. Below this there is a marina with several moored boats and a boat yard. Please avoid upsetting the boat owners when fishing here especially when loose feeding. We all have to share the river.

 

As it nears Stonebridge Lock the river deepens and can be a very good fish holding area in the colder months. Above Stonebridge Lock

Section Tips

• For the bream try double caster over ground-bait with loose fed caster. Match anglers take bream up to 4 lbs on large punch bread presented on long pole. Sweetcorn is also worth a try.
• The turning bays in the industrial estate are often the most productive areas.
• Don’t neglect the nearside swims in this area. You don’t have to use your pole at full length!
• Try floating baits to take carp up to 20 lbs especially under the A406.

For pike fishing, look where the roach are coming from and fish close by. Try under the A406.
